Composer John Cacavas dies aged 83

Acclaimed TV and film composer John Cacavas has died at the age of 83. He passed away on Tuesday (28Jan14) at his home in Beverly Hills. No further details of his death have been released.
Cacavas kicked off his composing career in 1972 with the feature film Horror Express, starring Christopher Lee, and went on to score two movies in the Airport film franchise – Airport 1975 and Airport ’77.
Thanks to his close friendship with Kojak actor Telly Savalas, he acted as the composer on his pal’s crime drama series for all five seasons, earning an Emmy nomination for Original Music for a Series in 1976.
He earned his second Emmy nod in 1979 for his work on Joe Don Baker’s police series Eischied.
Cacavas’ other TV credits include Hawaii Five-O, Matlock, Columbo, Murder, She Wrote, and Magnum P.I.
His last credit was for the 2000 made-for-TV movie Perfect Murder, Perfect Town: JonBenet and the City of Boulder.
