Costner’s bison battle heads to Supreme Court

The Dances With Wolves star hired Peggy Detmers to make 17 bronze figures of Native Americans hunting the beasts in the early 1990s so he could display them at a planned five-star hotel.

The resort never came to fruition and in 2006, Costner decided to donate the Lakota Bison Jump collection to his Tatanka museum near the town of Deadwood.

But Detmers was not happy with the placement change and she sued for breach of contract in 2009.

She lost the suit last summer (11) when a judge ruled in Costner’s favour and allowed him to keep the bison sculptures at the South Dakota museum.

Now Detmers is appealing the decision and judges at the South Dakota Supreme Court have agreed to hear her case on 19 March (12).
