“Crouching Tiger” music wrangle

Tan Dun, who composed the original score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, has responded to protests by Chinese composer Ning Yong that his music was used in the film without his permission. Tan, who, along with other filmmakers connected with the hit movie, was named in a suit filed by Ning, told the BBC that Ning had failed to recognize that directors often employ both original music and “source” music. Tan said that the film’s production company negotiated an agreement with the China Records Shanghai Company for the use of Ning’s music.
