Billy Crystal has apparently taken himself out of the running for host of next
year’s Academy Awards show and has indicated he may never reprise the role again.
In an interview with Sunday’s New York Post, Crystal said that he no longer
found the Oscar work satisfying. “I don’t have anything to prove to myself about
it any more. … I just didn’t have it this year. I’ve given it up before. I can’t
do it every year. I’d go out of my mind.” Saying that he appreciates the sentiments
of fans who have organized “Bring Back Billy” campaigns, Crystal added, “If I
feel like it and they still want me, I guess I would do it at some point, but
it’s not the thing that I just have to do every year.”
