Daisy Ridley harbours Broadway dreams

Actress Daisy Ridley dreams of one day making her Broadway debut after struggling to contain her love of singing on the new Star Wars set.
The British movie newcomer, who portrays Rey in the highly-anticipated sequel, has been busy promoting the upcoming release of the sci-fi epic in New York City this week (begs30Nov15), and she used the opportunity to check out the new Broadway stage adaptation of The Color Purple, which stars Jennifer Hudson.
During an interview on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Wednesday (02Dec15), she said, “I saw The Color Purple last night and you know when you’re watching something and it’s so unbelievable, and you think, I wish I could do that? (It was) unreal.”
The actress’ Star Wars co-star John Boyega, who also sat in on the TV interview, insists Daisy would fit right in on the Broadway stage as her vocals are “fantastic” – something he experienced first hand on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
“Daisy has a fantastic singing voice, to the point where we challenged Daisy on set not to sing for 24 hours,” John recalled. “She couldn’t do it. We were an hour out of wrap and she just sang one note… and everybody just gave her a round of applause. She couldn’t make it without through the whole day without singing!”
