Dan Aykroyd developing Ghostbusters prequel for TV

Dan Aykroyd has written a prequel to the Ghostbusters films he hopes to turn into a TV series.
The actor has penned an origin story for the series, which is set in the high school, where the leading Ghostbusters characters meet.
The 66 year old is eager to adapt the script for the small screen, ideally with Jason Reitman, who is working on the latest movie instalment of the spook-chasing film franchise.
“I’ve written Ghostbusters High, where they meet in New Jersey in 1969 and we’re looking to do that as probably a glorified feature or pilot within the next maybe five years…,” Aykroyd, who portrayed Dr. Raymond Stantz in the 1984 film and its 1989 sequel, “and it would lead to a television project.
“It’s on his (Reitman) desk but that’s years away from the current project. But it’s a neat idea for a prequel. Imagine casting the three characters as teenagers!”
He also hints that additional Ghostbusters projects may be in the works.
He added, “We have other stuff after the Jason Reitman-helmed movie. We have at least one or two other concepts for the Ghostbusters and then we’ll look at doing the prequel, which will be a perfect button on all we’ve done up to that point.”
Addressing the upcoming Ghostbusters film, Dan tells The Canadian Press, “Jason has written a beautiful script; I can’t say too much about it but it’s going to get made and hopefully there’ll be some familiar faces…
“It’s so different from even the first and second (movies). This just takes it to a new generation and a new direction that is so warm, heartfelt and, indeed, quite scary when you confront some of the issues that are being discussed.”
Reitman’s father, filmmaker Ivan Reitman, directed the first two Ghostbusters movies. The franchise was reimagined as an all-female vehicle, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon, in 2016, but the movie was not received well by critics.
