Daniel Bruhl Quizzed His Psychotherapist Wife for ‘The Alienist’ Role

Actor Daniel Bruhl risked annoying his therapist wife by peppering her with questions as he prepared to play a criminal psychologist on new TV drama The Alienist.

The Captain America: Civil War star portrays Dr. Laszlo Kreizler in the period drama, based on author Caleb Carr’s 1994 novel of the same name, and he didn’t have to look far for research.

“My wife is a psychotherapist, so that was pretty handy,” he told the New York Post’s Page Six.

However, Bruhl admits his frequent bedtime queries didn’t win him any points with Felicitas Rombold, who he wed in 2010.

“Before we went to bed, I would ask her questions…,” he shared. “She had her moments of, ‘Would you leave me alone?’ But she was very helpful.”

The Alienist, which also stars Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans, follows the trio’s characters as they investigate a series of child murders in New York in 1896.
