Danny DeVito tagged along on sister’s drive-in movie date

Danny Devito once threw a tantrum so his older sister would take him with her on a date.
The 72-year-old actor has two older siblings and while many complain of being picked on as the youngest in the family, Danny took advantage of the age gap.
“Oh they did everything, and I was a pain in the ass. I made them take me everywhere,” he grinned on Wednesday night’s (23Nov16) episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “They’re teenagers right, one of my sisters is 16 years older than me, so you can imagine she’s going out with a boy, she’s gotta take me with her. I remember this like it was yesterday; I cried like a little brat because they were going to a drive-in movie… My sister and her boyfriend took me to a drive-in movie, I sat in the middle!”
Looking back the star joked he’s “ashamed” of his behaviour, though felt better when host Stephen admitted he grew up with a similar situation and would test his older sister’s boyfriends.
The Matilda actor touched upon his current projects while on the show too, including his short film Curmudgeons. At just 16 minutes long, Danny directs and stars in the project, about two elderly men who fall in love with each other to the shock of their families.
Danny’s daughter, Lucy DeVito, whom he shares with wife Rhea Perlman, also stars in the sweet film and it was her idea to adapt it for the screen.
“I saw (the) play off Broadway,” he said of the show, written by Joshua Conkel, who also penned the short movie. “My daughter Lucy, who’s in the movie… she said, ‘We should make this into a little movie.’ This was like three years ago, and you know the whole thing about gay marriage, people getting married now, being able to do what they really want to do and love the people that they want to love… we thought it was a really great subject.”
