Danny DeVito to be honored at 2018 San Sebastian Festival

Danny Devito is to be honored at the upcoming San Sebastian International Film Festival.

The American actor, producer and director will be presented with the Donostia Award at the 66th edition of the annual Spanish film event on 22 September (18) and will unveil his new animated movie Smallfoot, in which he voices the character of Dorgle, the following day.

In a statement, San Sebastian Festival organisers stated that DeVito was selected for the prize due to his versatility across a range of different genres.

“The award recognises a career of almost five decades related to acting in theatre, film and television, telling stories as an actor, producer and director,” they said. “The Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner is known for his roles in television series Taxi and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and movies such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Terms of Endearment, Romancing the Stone, Twins, Ruthless People, and Tin Men.”

DeVito, 73, most recently wrapped on Disney’s live-action version of Dumbo, in which he plays Max Medici, and is due to start work on a sequel to 1988 movie Twins called Triplets, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eddie Murphy.

The San Sebastian Festival, which will open with Juan Vera’s film El Amor Menos Pensado, is due to run from 21- 29 September.
