Darren Hayes slams Australian Conservatives for including his music on playlist

Ex-Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes has blasted an Australian political party after his music was used on its playlist without his permission.
The singer, most famous for pop hits including I Want You and Truly Madly Deeply, was outraged when he discovered that the right-wing Australian Conservatives had included his songs on their #AC100, an alternative to TripleJ’s Hottest 100 playlist.
Darren, along with some of the other featured artists were upset at being included, and asked for their music to be removed or the party may face legal action.
“I do not want to be associated with you, your party or your views,” he tweeted to South Australian Senator Cory Bernardi. “Remove my music from this stunt or expect contact from my publisher. I stand with Indigenous Australians. I always have.”
The playlist also featured tracks from other Australian artists including AC/DC and singer-songwriter Jimmy Barnes, who previously clashed with energy minister Josh Frydenberg for mentioning one of his songs in a press conference.
The 45-year-old reached out to a plethora of other musicians, including Kylie Minogue, via Twitter, asking “Are you guys cool with the far right Australian Conservatives using our music to promote their agenda?”
Though Senator Bernardi has defended the move and tweeted that “music is for everyone,” Spotify has since issued a statement distancing itself from the controversial playlist.
“Spotify has actively supported marriage, gender and Indigenous equality initiatives over the last five years, and believes in a diverse and multicultural Australia,” a spokeswoman said. “We want to make clear we do not endorse this playlist, nor do we have any official ties to the Australian Conservatives party nor any other political party.”
