David Beckham’s Olympic speedboat fails to sell at auction

Millions of people around the globe tuned in to watch as the London Games were launched in spectacular show which was directed by Danny Boyle and included a cameo appearance by Queen Elizabeth II and Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Soccer superstar Beckham also made an appearance during the ceremony, riding up London’s River Thames in a speedboat carrying the Olympic Torch.

The craft, a Bladerunner RIB 35, went under the hammer at Bonhams auction house in England on Monday (03Dec12), but failed to hit its undisclosed reserve price. The highest bid was $288,000 (£180,000).

Bonhams spokesman Julian Roup says, “It was a very busy sale but the item was fairly highly priced and there was insufficient interest on the day. It may sell in a post-sale deal.”
