Deana Carter lost Nashville role to Connie Britton

Country singer Deana Carter vied for actress Connie Britton’s role on U.S. drama Nashville. The Strawberry Wine hitmaker has a few acting credits to her name, but she was hoping to score a part which wouldn’t be too far from her real life – beloved singer Rayna James on the hit programme about country music stars in Tennessee.
In an interview with Nashville newspaper The Tennessean, Carter reveals, “I auditioned for Rayna. I know quite a few people did. I think Connie does a great job. And I love the show, I’m a huge fan.”
Despite losing the role to the more seasoned actress, the Nashville native was able to contribute her musical skills to the show – she co-wrote the song I Know How to Love You Now with actor Chip Esten, which he recently performed in the season three premiere.
