Death toll in arson attack on animation studio rises to 33

The death toll following an arson attack on a top Japanese animation studio has risen to 33.
The Kyoto Animation Co. building in Kyoto was destroyed by a blaze on Thursday (18Jul19) after a man sprayed gasoline inside the structure and ignited it.
Emergency services officials initially confirmed at least 23 people were dead and dozens injured after the incident, with some people still unaccounted for, according to local broadcaster NHK. That figure has now risen to 33.
The suspect has been detained and was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.
Kyoto Animation was founded in 1981 by producer Yoko Hatta and her husband Hideaki.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called the incident “horrifying”.
