Del Toro: ‘I can’t go back to Mexico’

The Pan’s Labyrinth director fears he and his family will become targets for drug lords seeking ransom money if he goes home.

He tells Time magazine, “I cannot go back to Mexico as a director because of the kidnapping of my father. A film is a highly visible venture, and I can’t risk it.”

And Del Toro admits he always regrets the fact he can’t simply go home: “Every day, every week, something happens that reminds me that I am in involuntary exile… As a man, the kidnapping defined my life.”
