The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) annually recognises celebrities over the age of 50 for their contributions to the industry, and now Washington has picked up the trophy for Best Actor courtesy of his role in Flight.
In addition,Dench earned the title in the female category for her turn in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which also took home the prize for Best Picture.
Meanwhile, Lincoln filmmaker Steven Spielberg beat out the competition for Best Director, and Washington’s Flight co-star and Argo castmember John Goodman and Silver Linings Playbook actress Jacki Weaver were named Best Supporting Actor and Actress.
