Despicable Me 2 makes history in Mexico

Animated sequel Despicable Me 2 has made history in Mexico by becoming the first film to be distributed to cinemas digitally via satellite. Distributors at Contenido Alternativo worked with Universal executives and boffins to place the hit new film in 281 Cinepolis theatres ahead of the movie’s release on Friday (05Jul13).
The cost-cutting measure took “a few hours to deliver, compared to three or four days that it usually takes to copy and distribute hard drives to all the theatres”, according to Contenido Alternativo CEO Juan Manuel Borbolla.
The film, featuring the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and Benjamin Bratt, is expected to shoot to the top of box office lists around the world this weekend.
