Despicable Me 2 tops U.K. box office

Animated adventure Despicable Me 2 has seen off competition from magical movie Now You See Me and Google film The Internship to land a second weekend atop the U.K. box office. The cartoon caper, a sequel to the 2010 original featuring the voice of Steve Carell, earned just under $6.2 million (£4 million) to keep the number one slot.
Jesse Eisenberg’s Now You See Me, about a group of bank-robbing musicians, pulled in $4.5 million (£2.9 million) over the weekend (05-07Jul13) to bag second place, while Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson’s comedy The Internship came in third with $1.9 million (£1.2 million).
Brad Pitt’s zombie thriller World War Z dropped down a place to number four ($1.3 million/£837,347), and Superman film Man of Steel rounded out the top five with takings of $1.2 million (£802,763).
