Actress Diane Kruger felt relief when she and her ex-boyfriend Joshua Jackson went public with their split, because they had been keeping the break-up a secret for months.
The Inglourious Basterds star insists their decision to call it quits wasn’t triggered by a big fight, but they still needed time to process their amicable separation in private before announcing they had called it quits in July, 2016.
“This was a long time coming,” the German beauty told Vulture.com. “Also, we broke up many months before we said we were broken up, so by the time I made that decision (to go public), it didn’t feel like it was so urgent anymore. You don’t break up overnight after 10 years, you know what I mean…?
“Actually, it felt liberating because I didn’t have to worry about that anymore, so I could immerse myself 100 per cent into something else.”
Kruger threw herself into her work, filming new terrorist drama In the Fade, and she enjoyed allowing herself to be completely focused on the job in hand – without a romance to think about.
“Nobody came to visit me (during filming), I didn’t have to worry about anything else but this,” she shared, insisting she “didn’t want” the outside support from a loved one during the tough shoot in her native Germany.
“It’s a distraction,” she added.
Diane has since moved on romantically, embarking on a relationship with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus, who she was first pictured with last February (17), while Joshua was photographed walking arm-in-arm with model Shafia West in August (17).
