Director Alain Resnais dies

French director Alain Resnais has died. He was 91. The acclaimed filmmaker passed away in Paris, France on Saturday (01Mar14), according to producer Jean-Louis Livi.
With a career spanning six decades, Resnais started directing in the 1950s, making a mark with his unconventional movies Hiroshima Mon Amour, Last Year At Marienbad and Muriel.
A regular on the European film festival scene, Resnais picked up an innovation prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany last month (Feb14) and was working on a script for a new project at the time of his death.
Resnais helmed almost 50 movies during his long-running career and was awarded a lifetime achievement prize at the Cannes Film Festival in France in 2009.
