Argentinian director Damian Szifron has reportedly joined the race to replace Doug Liman at the helm of the long-awaited Justice League Dark movie.
The Mr. & Mrs. Smith filmmaker walked away from the DC Comics film adaptation last week (ends26May17), making him the second person to quit the project after Guillermo Del Toro in 2015.
Sources recently told The Hollywood Reporter Mama director Andy Muschietti was on the shortlist to take charge of Justice League Dark, and now Szifron is said to have emerged as another possible contender for the job, according to Meet the Movie Press.
He is best known for his Oscar-nominated film Wild Tales, and was also initially tipped to pen the script for the remake of The Six Million Dollar Man, renamed The Six Billion Dollar Man, two years ago.
Bosses at Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment have yet to comment on the speculation, but are expected to announce Liman’s replacement in the near future.
Justice League Dark has been in the works for several years, and will explore the DC Extended Universe’s dark side, revolving around characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon.
The movie is separate from the Justice League franchise Zack Snyder had been working on, before recently stepping down as director to mourn the loss of his daughter. Avengers filmmaker Joss Whedon has been drafted in to complete the blockbuster, which is still on track for a November (17) release.
Justice League will feature Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman.
