The Walt Disney Co. on Wednesday decided to postpone the December release of the comedy action-adventure Bad Company starring Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock because of its terrorist plot line involving a suitcase bomb on the verge of detonation.
The film, which was originally slated for release on December 25, is about a veteran CIA agent who must transform a street punk into a savvy spy to negotiate a sensitive nuclear weapons deal with terrorists.
Though Bad Company is not recognized as being blatantly violent, The Hollywood Reporter quoted a source close to the production as saying, “Even though it’s an action dramedy, this just didn’t seem the right time to bring it out. The tone of the movie is serious but humorous.”
Disney also said in a statement, “Due to the national tragedy that occurred, Touchstone Pictures has postponed the release date of its action-comedy film Bad Company.”
This will be the third film that has been postponed in light of last Tuesday’s tragedy.
Disney last week postponed the release of Big Trouble starring Tim Allen and Rene Russo and Warner Bros. rescheduled the Oct. 5 release of Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s Collateral Damage.
DreamWorks has also postponed the Dec. 25 release of The Time Machine to make changes in the movie’s ending. The H.G. Wells adaptation features a falling moon on the city of New York.
Disney has not said when the film will eventually be released.
