Don McLean’s handwritten American Pie lyrics up for auction

Don Mclean’s handwritten lyrics to American Pie are to be auctioned online.
There are only four copies of the lyrics to the bestselling song, and one will go under the hammer at Nate D. Sanders Auctions on 26 January (17).
This is the second copy to be offered to the public after the original draft sold in 2015 for $1.2 million (GBP963,000) to a private collector. A second copy is owned by the Harvard University library and McLean gave a third to a close friend.
McLean recorded and released American Pie for the album of the same name in 1971. The song spent four weeks at the top of the U.S. charts in 1972. In 2001, the Recording Industry of America named American Pie the 5th greatest song of the 20th century.
Bidding for the lyrics begins at $100,000 (GBP80,200).
The auction will also feature Michael Jackson’s white sequined glove, which the late King of Pop gave to his personal artist, Paul Bedard. He sold it to a private collector in 2005.
Bidding for the glove begins at $75,000 (GBP60,000).
