Dougie Poynter debuts new rock ‘n’ roll fashion line

Dougie Poynter has launched a new men’s fashion line.

The former McFly rocker is a frequent front row guest at some of London’s biggest menswear fashion shows, and even took to the catwalk himself when he walked for Joshua Kane in 2016.

He has previously dabbled in fashion design having launched a company called Saint Kidd in 2011, which prided itself on its T-shirts and hand-made jewellery, but his latest venture, named Polonius, is on a much larger scale.

“I’ve had clothing lines in the past but always needed a bigger team. Now I finally have it and we have been working together for about a year now…. and I hate them already!” Dougie joked in an interview with the Irish Examiner. “The inspiration is a mix of old-school Hollywood and rock’n’roll. Back when (Led Zeppelin drummer) John Bonham used to ride motorcycles down hotel corridors on Sunset Boulevard. It’s everything rock – from the ’70s way up to the ’90s.”

The collection, which consists of shirts, T-shirts, skinny jeans and sportswear-inspired pieces, went live online on Wednesday (06Jun18) with a tulip print black shirt proving to be one of the most popular pieces of the collection.

“I love the shirts,” smiled the 30-year-old, who previously dated singer Ellie Goulding. “They are super Romeo and Juliet inspired. They feel great. I love our baggier pants too. It’s better than being naked and we spent a long time getting the cut right.”

The musician added that he counts designers Hedi Slimane and Stella McCartney as two of his fashion role models.

Hedi has an amazing eye for the rock’n’roll image and some amazing stage pieces. Stella, the whole ethos behind her brand blows my mind, as well as her men’s clothes,” he enthused. “Everyone should follow in her steps.”
