Dru Barnes recovering after vicious street attack

Reggae star Dru Barnes is recovering after losing his left eye in a vicious street attack. The Grammy Award nominee was walking home from a friend’s house in Brooklyn, New York on 11 July (13), when he was grabbed and repeatedly beaten by a man with a hammer.
He was transported to the Kings County Medical Center for emergency surgery and will be fitted with a false eye next week (23Jul13) after doctors determined the optic nerve was too far damaged to be repaired.
The 34 year old was discharged from hospital on Tuesday (16Jul13) and is now resting comfortably at home before his next operation.
The incident is currently under investigation by police, who released a sketch of a suspect on Wednesday (17Jul13) and urged the public to contact the authorities if they have any information about the case.
Meanwhile, the musician’s pals have launched a Facebook.com page to help the star pay for his medical bills and provide fans with updates on his condition.
