Action man Dwayne Johnson is keen to recruit Armie Hammer to play superhero Shazam in his planned Black Adam blockbuster.
The Furious 7 hardman has been developing his own standalone film about comic book villain Black Adam, in which he will star as the titular character, and there is one actor Dwayne has his eye on as a potential contender to do battle with onscreen.
He dropped some big hints about his latest casting idea during a new video interview with WeGotThisCovered.com, and although Dwayne stops short of naming Armie outright, it’s clear the tall The Lone Ranger and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. star has caught his attention.
“I’m gonna throw one name out here and I wanna see how the fans react to this,” Dwayne explains. “(There’s) a guy who I met, and after I met him, I thought, ‘Man, that guy is such a cool guy’. He’s a lot bigger than I thought he would be, and when I walked away, I remember telling our producer… We both looked at each other and was like, ‘Possibly Shazam?'”
“I’m not gonna tell you his name, I’m just gonna say Lone Ranger,” Dwayne continues, as the interviewer seemingly identifies Armie and voices his approval.
“You can see that, right?” he smiles. “I didn’t know if he’s interested…”
However, Dwayne insists Armie is just “one of a handful” of possibilities to play Shazam in the forthcoming adaptation.
It’s not the first time Armie has been linked to a DC Comics project – he remains a fan favourite to take over the role of Hal Jordan in the new Green Lantern Corps movie, which is pegged for a 2020 release.
Casting details for that film have yet to be revealed, but Ryan Reynolds previously portrayed Jordan and his superhero alter ego, the Green Lantern, in the 2011 film flop of the same name.
