eBay bans sale of merchandise linked to Varg Vikernes

Online auction site eBay has banned the sale of merchandise for Varg Vikernes’ metal project Burzum because of his history of violence. The Norwegian musician was convicted of inciting racial hatred in France last month (Jul14) after making offensive remarks about Muslims and Jews online. He was handed a six month suspended sentence and a $10,880 (£6,400) fine.
Website Metal Sucks now reports an anonymous eBay user tried to sell two items of merchandise connected to Burzum but they were rejected on the grounds that they broke the site’s offensive material policy, which states objects cannot be listed if they “promote or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual, or religious intolerance, or promote organisations with such views.”
Vikernes was released from prison in 2009 after serving 15 years of a 21-year sentence for the murder of Mayhem guitarist Euronymous, and in 2013 he was arrested on his farm in Salon-la-Tour in central France, after local authorities became suspicious when his wife bought four fire arms.
They initially accused the rocker of planning a terrorist attack but later dropped the charges due to a lack of evidence.
