Former racing driver Eddie Irvine is recovering after he was reportedly attacked by a shark while diving in the Bahamas. The Irish Formula One star was in the water close to his home when he saw the beast coming for him, and he eventually escaped after fighting it off with a spear.
According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, the 48 year old said of his terrifying brush with death, “I turned to face it – not easy to do – and hit it with my spear. It turned away but came back as I reversed out of his territory.”
The shark attack concludes a particularly bad month for the former sportsman, who was recently sentenced to six months in prison by an Italian court after he was convicted of brawling in a Milan nightclub in 2008.
