Elijah Wood: ‘Nicolas Cage is more than a meme’

Elijah Wood thinks people forget how good an actor Nicolas Cage is because of the countless internet memes featuring him.
The Leaving Las Vegas star has been a cinema staple for over 30 years, bagging an Oscar, Golden Globe and SAG award in the process.
However in recent years Nicolas, nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola, has become the butt of countless internet jokes, including having his face plastered on to images of Disney Princess and Game of Thrones characters.
“He’s such an extraordinary actor and often under-appreciated, especially in this digital age where he has become a meme,” Elijah said of his The Trust co-star Nicolas to Britain’s Metro newspaper. “A lot of that is because he turns in performances that are not of the norm. He has wild ideas and incredible impulses that are unique to him and exciting to watch,” he mused.
“The opportunity to act opposite him was something I couldn’t pass up. It was a thrill. We had the best time, he’s so vital and loves working and creating.”
The Trust is a heist thriller about a pair of police officers investigating a drug invasion, when they stumble on a mysterious bank vault.
While filming in Las Vegas, the cast and crew experienced some drama of their own when a dead body was discovered on site.
“Yes our production tram was on location in a derelict parking lot on the outskirts of Las Vegas. I didn’t see it but someone found a dead body in a car. He looked like he’d been there for weeks. It was upsetting and showed the seediness of Las Vegas,” Elijah admitted. “It’s a bizarre place.”
