Actress Eliza Dushku is moving to the dark side to star in a TV adaptation of The Black Company fantasy books.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star will pull double duty on the IM Global Television project, taking on the role of dark sorceress The Lady onscreen and working as executive producer through her Boston Diva Productions company.

Dushku picked up the rights to all 10 books in author Glen Cook’s novel franchise, which was first published in 1984, and she has also optioned the next installment, Port of Shadows, which is due for release next year (18).

The books center on an elite mercenary unit, known as The Black Company, and the group’s dealings with dark forces over a 40-year period.

The Black Company is vast in scope yet remains fundamentally relevant through the morally ambiguous choices it presents at every turn,” Dushku shares in a statement. “We are excited to bring Glen Cook’s classic story to life.”
