Elle Macpherson’s husband fights back in helicopter crash suit

Elle Macpherson’s billionaire husband Jeffrey Soffer has hit back at a lawsuit alleging he was behind the controls of a helicopter which crashed and killed his friend. Soffer, who wed the Australian supermodel last year (13), escaped death when the aircraft he was travelling in crash-landed in the Bahamas in 2012.
His friend Lance Valdez was killed in the accident, and his widow, Daria Gogoleva, filed a lawsuit claiming Soffer should be held liable for her husband’s death as he was behind the controls at the time of the accident.
She also alleged that she was duped into accepting a $2 million (£1.25 million) insurance payout by the businessman, who has now asked a judge to dismiss her suit.
In papers filed in Miami, Florida on Thursday (30Jan14), Soffer’s lawyers brand Gogoleva’s lawsuit “baseless and frivolous”, adding, “Jeffrey Soffer categorically denies plaintiff’s allegations of improper conduct.”
The lawsuit against Soffer was originally filed in December (13) before being withdrawn in early January (14) only to be refiled days later.
