Ellie Goulding admits fame ruined her past relationships

Ellie Goulding’s relationships suffered as a result of her blossoming music career.

The singer took a two-year break from her career, in which time she found love with her art dealer fiance Caspar Jopling, with the couple planning to marry next year (19). Ellie, who has suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks in the past, says that her time out has done her mental health the world of good, and allowed her to strengthen her relationship with Caspar.

“Relationships and friendships definitely suffered in the past because of my career. Absolutely,” she admitted in an interview with The Sun. “So taking time out has meant I’ve been able to nurture my relationship with Caspar and spend quality time with my friends and family.”

The 31-year-old is still “good friends” with her “wonderful” ex-boyfriend Dougie Poynter, but insisted that her relationship with Caspar felt different, and that they spoke of marriage early on in their romance.

“We’d talked about it because we were getting on so stupidly well and we didn’t want to spend a second apart. But no, I had no idea,” she smiled. “I didn’t have a clue, though Caspar had the ring for a while. I think we just knew. Some people were like, ‘Wow, you haven’t been together that long!’ But we knew quite early on.”

Ellie’s husband-to-be proposed with a vintage ring which is “about 100 years old,” and the Burn hitmaker is already thinking about starting a family.

“Maybe not now, though. I’m 32 soon,” she pondered. “I feel like I can do both. My aim is to be a working mum.”

Ellie is currently working on her fourth album, and next Thursday (20Dec18) is headlining a special charity gig at London’s Wembley Arena for Streets Of London — the homelessness charity for which she is an ambassador.
