Emma Thompson: ‘Monogamy is odd’

Actress Emma Thompson has branded humans natural born love cheats. Thompson, who starred in Love Actually as the mistreated wife of a cheating husband, finds the concept of longterm commitment strange and is adamant monogamy is not natural.
Speaking during a webchat on Wednesday (02Oct13), Thompson said, “I do think that monogamy is an odd state, and actually I think it’s an odd state for women. I think that we’re locked into certain ideas and certain romantic ideals that have shaped our thinking about relationships for some time. And I do wonder about whether there are alternatives, and about whether our fury and rage and disbelief and horror at infidelity is quite realistic.”
Thompson married actor Greg Wise in 2003 after they met on the set of Sense and Sensibility. The couple has a daughter and an adopted son together.
