The Ritmo Latino Music Awards, aka Award of the People, announced the names of 70 nominees Tuesday for its annual acclamations. The nominees were selected based on SoundScan Inc.’s report on record sales from July 1999 to June 2000. Awards will be doled out in 14 categories, including Pop, Ranchero, Regional Mexican, Salsa, Video, Song and Artist of the Year.
You can vote for your favorites from Aug. 9 to Sept. 12 at VONS supermarkets in California, and Ritmo Latino Record Stores throughout the United States.
Among the nominees: Ana Gabriel, Jaci Velasquez and Thalia for Female Pop Artist or Group; Enrique Iglesias, Luis Miguel and Christian Castro for Male Pop Artist or Group; Elvis Crespo, Tony Tun Tun and Manny Manuel for Merengue Artist — Male or Female; and Enrique Iglesias, Mana and Luis Miguel for Album of the Year.
