Eric Church scores biggest sales week of 2014 to top U.S. album chart

Country music star Eric Church has signalled the end of a winter albums sales slump in America by taking his new release The Outsiders to the top of the Billboard 200 countdown with the highest weekly figure of the year so far. The album debuts at number one with 288,000 copies sold in its first week, becoming the chart’s biggest seller since Beyonce’s self-titled release scored 310,000 sales in its second week on the countdown in December (13).
It’s Church’s second chart-topper – 2011’s Chief also hit the top spot.
There was no tight race for the top this week – the Frozen soundtrack is a distant second with 100,000 copies sold, while the Now 49 compilation falls from one to three.
