Ethan Hawke to tackle Macbeth on Broadway

Ethan Hawke is heading back to Broadway to tackle the lead role in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Fresh from the success of his latest movie The Purge, which topped the U.S. box office last weekend (07-09Jun13), the actor is preparing to tread the boards once again in the role of the tragic Celtic king.
The play will reunite Hawke with Jack O’Brien, his Coast of Utopia director, and that bodes well for the actor, who received a Tony Award nomination in 2006 for the play.
His latest Broadway run is slated to open at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York on 21 November (13).
Hawke is not the only Hollywood star to take on the weighty role on Broadway – Alan Cumming is currently starring in a one-man production of Shakespeare’s tragedy at the Barrymore Theater.
The Scottish actor picked up the Best Actor trophy at the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland on Sunday (09Jun13) for his “unforgettable” one-man performance in Macbeth.
