Actor Eugenio Derbez helped build his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

The How to Be a Latin Lover actor was honored with the 2,576th star on the famous Los Angeles boulevard last year (16), and gave a memorable speech thanking the Latino community for their support during the induction ceremony.

However, Derbez didn’t just simply show up to the event on the day as he claims he actually gave the builders a hand with the installation of the star after being “curious” about the process.

“I thought they just came with the star and put it there. But no, it’s built in the place, and I heard that it was built by Mexicans, and I’m Mexican,” he explained during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Wednesday night (26Apr17).

“So I went there and told them ‘Guys, we are compadres (friends), we are Mexicans, so can you put a little more gold in the star? Or make it bigger or prettier?'”

With a little help from his new pals, Derbez is certain his plaque is discernible from the rest.

“Mine is slightly different, and bigger and shiner, but it’s beautiful. I was there doing my own star,” he added.

Derbez won acclaim in 2013 as the star and director of Instructions Not Included, and has since appeared in Charlie Sheen’s TV comedy Anger Management, Beverly Hills Chihuahua and The Book of Life. He’s is currently gearing up to appear alongside Anna Faris in a remake of the 1987 classic movie Overboard, which starred real life couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.

While details on the reboot are being kept under wraps, Derbez would love for the original stars to make an appearance in the flick.

“It would be amazing for the movie, for the audience to have a small cameo of Goldie and Kurt,” he recently told Entertainment Tonight.

“We have a place to put Goldie in the movie, so hopefully we are going to get her.”
