Evacuated Chris Carter Forced to Miss ‘X-Files’ Media Event

The X-Files creator Chris Carter was forced to miss the show’s final Television Critics Association panel in Los Angeles on Wednesday (10Jan18) after he was forced to evacuate his home.

Carter’s Montecito, California estate was one of those affected by flooding and mudslides following heavy rain, and he had to sit out the TCA event to take care of business at home.

In his absence, The X-Files star Gillian Anderson confirmed plans to walk away from the long-running sci-fi hit at the end of the current season, stating, “There’s lots of things I want to do in my life and in my career.”

The London-based actress, who unveiled a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday (08Jan18), added, “It’s been an extraordinary character, but there’s lots of things to do and I don’t want to be tied down doing one thing.”

Asked if she’d consider returning to the small or big screen as Agent Dana Scully in the future, Gillian told reporters, “I’m serious. I’m finished.”

The 11th season of The X-Files began last week (ends05Jan18), and Anderson told fans at New York Comic-Con in October (17), she only agreed to return for last year’s (17) six-episode 10th season because she wanted closure for her character: “I felt like it wasn’t over,” she said. “It didn’t feel like we necessarily (delivered) everything the fans were expecting of us.”

And she confessed she hadn’t planned to return for an 11th season, adding, “I thought I was done.”
