Exciting Broadway News About Shows You’ve Never Seen!

John C. Reilly SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 8, 2000 — Every year, people in New York throw a big awards party for themselves called the Tonys. And every year, the national media pays attention because, gee, if it happens in New York, it must be important and, well, peer pressure is a powerful thing. That said, we hereby note that the nominations for the Tony Awards, honoring the finest in cornball Broadway musicals and such, were announced today. A revival of a show you probably have never seen–Cole Porter’sKiss Me Kate” — led the way with 12 nominations.

Nominees you may have heard of include: Elton John (up for Best Score for “Aida”) and film types Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly (lead acting contenders for the play “True West”).

If you must, the awards will be presented June 4. Rosie O’Donnell is set to host the CBS telecast.
