Women-Led Movies Topped the Box Office in 2017
The success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Wonder Woman and Beauty And The Beast in 2017 means that for the first time since 1958, three films with female stars in lead roles were the top earners at the American box office.
According to the tracking websites Box Office Madness, which publishes data on pre-1980 films, and Box Office Mojo, which tracks modern movies, it’s been 59 years since this last happened, with South Pacific, Auntie Mame, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
