Fashion & Style: The Woman in Black (Lace)

Lady Gaga

Well, it's true that there's no one out there who can wear black lace like Lady Gaga can! In this photo, I'm assuming this is her "gothic gardener" look.

Emma Watson

I'm thinking that Emma Watson needs to "Expecto Patronum" herself away from this look! This dress says "wannabe Vegas showgirl" rather than "Billion dollar grossing franchise star".

Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese is definitely the cat's meow in this stunning look! Everything is where it should be on this dress. The sheer and black panels are exceptionally placed, which compliments her famous hourglass figure. Slow fashion gazelles watch out! This kitten is ready to roar!

Only two words, and two words only for Ginnifer Goodwin's dress: MAN REPELLER. I am just not into this look.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow's look definitely deserves an award! The sharply tailored tuxedo jacket balances out the shortness of her sparkly, lacy mini-dress! Paired with sky-high heels and soft, tousled waves, this look is A++!

Cher

Deriving fashion inspiration from kooky Halloween movies is great. But in this photo, Cher is delivering us, "low budget Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas". Now THIS is a hot mess!

Eva Green

The persona of this dress is definitely the "Matron of Horror"! The very lovely Eva Green is reduced to an older version of herself in this look! Dresses should not make one appear as if they are aging! Eva and this dress does not make perfect sense.

Kate Winslet

This is a great look for Kate Winslet. The black lace panels are a great example of how to wear sheer black lace without it looking like lingerie. The dress is age appropriate, and simply flattering. There is a definite sense and sensibility about this entire look!

Lucy Liu

Jenny Dayco (Commentary)/ Hollywood.com
Yikes, this is a feathery flop for Lucy Liu! This dress has too many things going on--the feathers are in places where they shouldn't be, a waist cinching corset, then it's sheer? When too many great ideas are meshed together, it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get a great outfit. The Cashmere Mafia would definitely put a hit out on this look.

Mia Wasikowska

I LOVE this dress, but I don't really love Mia Wasikowska in it. The gown is absolutely breath-taking, but Mia looks awkwardly rigid in it. Fashion and style is like pairing wine with food. There are adequate matches, there are stellar ones, there are bland ones, and there are ones that should NEVER be together.

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams' dress is not the pretty present I was hoping to untie! It's cute, but it looks a little bulky on her dainty shape. Instead of looking like lace, it looks like a heavy crochet overlay. There's a bit of room for improvement on this outfit.

Christina Ricci's look is full on "Wednesday Addams Chic"! I LOVE it!

Rihanna

I normally would say that Rihanna could make any look work--except this one! This looks like "mall couture" coupled with a "Princess Ariel" braid. This photo definitely sends me into disturbia!

Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson
Jenny Dayco (Commentary)/ Hollywood.com
Scarlett Johansson's look could have been better. Either the top half stays lacy, and the bottom half could just all be velvet, or the entire dress all lacy, or top half velvet, bottom half lacy. But the black velvet sandwiched in between? Unfortunately, it doesn't work.

Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum
Jenny Dayco (Commentary)/ Hollywood.com
Typically, black lace dresses have an intrinsic sexiness to them. Unfortunately in Heidi Klum's case, this look seems to be flat and uninteresting. The red piping on the belt AND the shoes just seems conspicuously deliberate. Sheer does not always equal sexy. Apparently she didn't get Victoria's Secret.

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne looks so cute in this photo, it's hard to believe she was part of the loud-mouthed 2002 phenomenon! The bright polka dots are a great punchy graphic against the daintiness of the lace. I totally go-go for this look!

Zoe Saldana

Jenny Dayco (Commentary)/ Hollywood.com
It is difficult to work a deep lacy V neckline without it looking too skanky. But Zoe Saldana pulls it off well! Her overall look is just the right combo of sexy and flirtatious! The "Heidi" braided hairstyle gives it the right dose of coy innocence to complete her outfit.
