Felicity Jones has reportedly signed up to star in a project inspired by Swan Lake.

The Oscar-nominated actress is said to be attached to a untitled movie based on the famous ballet, which was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and tells the story of a princess who is transformed into a swan under an evil sorcerer’s curse.

Italian director Luca Guadagnino, whose credits include 2015’s A Bigger Splash, is said to be in talks to helm the script penned by Kristina Lauren Anderson, the woman behind blacklisted screenplay Catherine the Great, according to Variety.

The outlet also notes that while there won’t be any dance involved, the new movie will use the tale of Princess Odette as its centerpiece.

It’s also thought the project has caught the attention of several major studios, with The Hollywood Reporter claiming Paramount, Universal and TriStar have all shown interest.

Mandeville Films, which has released features including Insurgent and this year’s (17) Beauty and the Beast, is producing, while William Morris Endeavor (WME) is representing the talent package.
Further details, including a release date, have yet to be revealed. Jones’ forthcoming schedule is looking relatively quiet, while Guadagnino is currently putting finishing touches on mystery movie Suspiria and working on next year’s drama Rio.

Swan Lake was most recently famously featured in 2010’s Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman as troubled ballet dancer Nina Sayers, Mila Kunis as her rival Lily and Vincent Cassel as their strict instructor Thomas Leroy. It earned Portman an Academy Award the following year, and was also nominated for the likes of Best Picture and Best Director for Darren Aronofsky.
