FERGIE is philosophical about the direction her life has taken in the wake of her marital split from Josh Duhamel.
The London Bridge singer and the Transformers actor announced their shock split in September (17), after eight years as husband and wife. The couple’s joint statement at the time insisted their main priority is their four-year-old son Axl, and since then Fergie has been busy promoting her new album Double Dutchess.
In an interview with Extra, the 42-year-old mused on the twists and turns of her life and how her music helped her to come to terms with the changes.
“It feels great! You never know what the universe is going to throw at you,” she smiled. “I have learned that a lot these past couple of years – life takes you in different directions.”
Discussing her new album, Fergie, real name Stacey Ferguson, explained how she channelled her feelings into writing songs like Life Goes On for the album, which she describes as a contrast of “very extreme differences.”
“Silly songs that are just ridiculous… to completely serious soul-baring lyrics and feelings that I’ve had and just written in my journals, and was able to express as therapy, basically, with the music – I don’t know how to do it any other way,” she added.
Meanwhile, the California native is set to make her debut in January (18) as the host of new talent show The Four: Battle for Stardom, a singing competition where singers hold four spots, with new challengers arriving each week to try to knock them out.
The music veteran, who is working alongside a star-studded panel of experts; Diddy, DJ Khaled, Meghan Trainor, and music producer Charlie Walk, excitedly revealed she feels like “the ringleader” of the crew.
“I feel like I have a new party crew… they’re so much fun… and you never know what you’re going to get – that’s my kind of party,” she laughed.
But in terms of competitor, she’s clear on what they’re all looking for.
“That stare, that eye of the tiger – that something that makes you just want to watch that person and want to hear that person,” she added.
