Film bosses disappointed by rejected studio expansion plans

British film leaders have slammed the decision to reject plans to extend the iconic studio where the James Bond movies are shot. Bosses at Pinewood Studios proposed a $310 million (£200 million) scheme to extend the studios onto nearby land in Buckinghamshire, England and warned the work was essential if Britain is to attract big productions in the future.
The plans were turned down by officials at South Buckinghamshire District Council on Wednesday (15May13) and now Adrian Wootton, chief executive of the British Film Commission, has spoken of his disappointment at the decision.
He says, “This is obviously disappointing news for Pinewood and we hope they can work to satisfy the objections of the planning committee.
“We believe an expansion of one of the country’s finest studio facilities would provide real benefit by capitalising on the success of the U.K. as a destination for major film and television production, a sector which has delivered billions of pounds worth of investment for the U.K. economy, and created thousands of jobs.”
Pinewood chiefs are planning to appeal against the decision.
