Florence Welch still struggling with foot injury

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE frontwoman FLORENCE WELCH performed her first U.K. festival date of 2015 sitting down as she is still struggling to recover from a foot injury sustained at a U.S. show last month (Apr15).
The British singer broke her foot during a set at the Coachella music festival in California in April (15), and she cut back the band’s second set at the event the following weekend to just 30 minutes due to the injury.
She made her return to the outdoor stage at the BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival in Norwich, England on Saturday (23May15), and at the start of the show, she apologised to the crowd for her pared down performance.
Welch had to be helped onto the stage as she took a seat on a stool in front of the band, telling the crowd, “I’m sorry… I broke my foot when I was in America. I broke my third metatarsal… I don’t want to stand in case I do any more damage, so I’ll just have to sit down.”
The band played an hour-long set, and during the show, Welch gave a mention to her younger brother JJ, who is studying at the local college, the University of East Anglia (UEA), and appealed to find him a girlfriend, saying, “My brother JJ, he goes to UEA – he’s looking for a girlfriend. He looks quite like me.”
Later in the gig, she added, “Have you found a girlfriend yet, JJ?”
Florence + The Machine will be among the headliners at this summer’s (15) Glastonbury festival in Britain.
Other performers at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival included rapper Snoop Dogg, who paid tribute to the local soccer team, Norwich City, by performing his set in the side’s yellow strip emblazoned with the word ‘Dogg’ on the back. He also made reference to his long absence from the U.K. due to various immigration troubles, telling the crowd, “It’s good to be back. I will be back again. I love you U.K.”
Charli XCX and 5 Seconds of Summer also performed, while the opening night was headlined by rockers Muse, who played an electric set complete with fireworks and pyrotechnic displays.
The second day of the festival on Sunday (24May15) will feature performances by Taylor Swift and Foo Fighters.
