FOX’s Regis Rivalry

It certainly sounds half-baked: FOX will not allow That ’70s Show star Ashton Kutcher to appear on an upcoming broadcast of ABC’s celebrity version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The reason? Rivalry.

According to Variety, Kutcher, 23, had been slated to appear on the popular ABC game show, which spikes its ratings in the May sweeps with a celebrity version, but FOX execs got greedy and ordered Kutcher to drop out. They apparently feared the ratings Millionaire would attract, and believe Kutcher should stay at FOX for the time being, as ABC will load the Millionaire stable with its own stars.

Kutcher actually wanted to appear on Regis’ game show. He had planned to donate at least $32,000 to an Iowa charity group that assists the families of transplant patients. Kutcher‘s twin brother is a heart-transplant survivor.

Kutcher, a former biochemistry major at the University of Iowa, argued that the $32,000 should be given to the charity regardless of his appearance on the ABC series, and won.
