Frank Ocean has denied his 2016 album Endless will be making an appearance on streaming platforms anytime soon.
Last Thursday (24Jan19) editors at Billboard reported the Thinkin’ Bout You hitmaker’s visual album was heading to major streaming services as a track-by-track album.
Excited fans began celebrating, such as Frank Ocean fan page frankoceanblonded, which posted: “soon we’ll be able to listen to Endless track-by-track (officially lol) !!!!!!.
However, the 31-year-old surfaced to comment underneath, “Fake news”, adding a few lightning bolt emojis for emphasis.
Endless, the first of Frank Ocean’s two 2016 releases, initially debuted as a 46-minute music video on Apple Music. It was his final release for Def Jam Recordings, fulfilling his obligations for the label.
In November 2017, he dropped CD and vinyl editions of Endless, however, it hasn’t been available digitally outside of Apple Music since its August 2016 release.
Frank’s hit album Blonde, released via his independent label Boys Don’t Cry, surfaced on Apple Music the day after the visual album. The Associated Press reported at the time that Def Jam and UMG (Universal Music Group) prematurely ended Ocean’s contract due to a fraught relationship.
“He didn’t want to be on a label. He wanted to do his own thing,” the source told AP. “I’m sure there was some kind of negotiation in order for him to get out of the contract if there were remaining commitments on the contract.”
