French editor to face charges for publishing topless Duchess shots

The editor of the French magazine which published topless photos of Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge on vacation last year (12) has been formally charged with breaching the country’s privacy laws. Closer boss Laurence Pieau was arrested earlier this month (Jul13) and he will now stand trial alongside publishing director Ernesto Mauri.
Pieau’s decision to run with the photos of the royal sunbathing at Chateau d’Autet in Provence last September (12) sparked controversy after the Duchess’ lawyer, Aurelien Hamelle, argued that the snaps were a “grotesque breach of privacy”.
But defiant Pieau told Agence France-Press, “These photos are not in the least shocking. They show a young woman sunbathing topless, like the millions of women you see on beaches… She is the princess of the 21st century.”
The latest news comes just three days after the Duchess and her husband Prince William became first-time parents – their son George was born in London on Monday (22Jul13).
