“Friends” Cast Go for Top Emmys

For the last eight seasons, cast members from the NBC hit series Friends have submitted their names for consideration in Emmy’s supporting actor categories.

Now, it’s time to go for the gusto.

For the first time, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox Arquette, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will enter into Emmy’s outstanding lead actor and actress races.

Friends executive producer Kevin Bright told Daily Variety a few weeks ago that the actors would decide what they would do as a collective unit.

“Up until this point, they’ve submitted themselves in the supporting roles, the reason being they’re all equal,” Bright said. “There’s no real star of the show.”

Yet the show had one of its best seasons ever, ranking as TV’s No. 1 program this year. Perhaps the cast feels like it’s time to go up against the big guns, such as the cast of Will & Grace and Frasier.

The only Friends member to win an Emmy was Kudrow in 1997.
