Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar and her beau, actor Freddie Prinze Jr., marked the end of the summer by tying the knot.
The couple exchanged vows Sunday at an undisclosed location in Mexico, their spokeswoman, Leslie Sloane, told the Associated Press Tuesday. The ceremony, attended by a group of friends and family, was kept a closely guarded secret from the public and the paparazzi.
The bride wore a Vera Wang gown while the groom opted for a custom-made linen suit.
The couple met while working on the set of the 1997 teen horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. They started dating in 2001 and Gellar announced their engagement a year later at her 24th birthday party.
Currently the star of the UPN series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gellar won a Daytime Emmy in 1995 for outstanding younger actress for her portrayal of the scheming Kendall Hart on the ABC soap All My Children.
Gellar and Prinze co-starred in this summer’s live-action adaptation of the popular cartoon Scooby-Doo–an ironic in-joke since the crime fighters on Buffy series were nicknamed “the Scooby gang.” They newlyweds recently signed on for a Scooby-Doo sequel, set for release sometime in 2004.
