Gene Roddenberry’s ashes to orbit the sun in 2014

Legendary Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry is to be granted his final wish in 2014 when his ashes will be launched into space and put into orbit around the sun. The sci-fi TV guru passed away in 1991 at the age of 70, and he left instructions for his remains to be sent into space.
His ashes were taken up on a space flight in 2007 and brought back down to Earth again, but now plans are in place to keep his remains on a craft in orbit around the sun.
Roddenberry’s ashes will be launched on a flight by the Celestis spaceflight company in 2014, along with the remains of his wife, Majel, and Star Trek actor James Doohan, who played Scotty prior to his death in 2005 at the age of 85.
The launch will take place in November, 2014.
